Derek Broaddus

Derek is the Senior Vice President at a leading global multibillion USD casualty specialty insurance company serving clients around the world. He has over 20 years of experience in the insurance and reinsurance industries of casualty property. His deep knowledge of the sector, on both the buy and market place sides, allows for nuanced customization that is unsurpassed. He has a B.S. from Fairfield University and an E-MBA from UC Berkeley.

Peter Hirshberg

Peter is a technology executive and activist who builds organizations and movements and finds value in self-organizing, distributed systems that work from the bottom-up to effect change. His sensibilities for how technology can empower people reaches back to his early days at Apple, where he headed up Enterprise Markets that he grew to US$1 billion under Steve Jobs. Peter has since led technology-based change initiatives for The White House, The United Nations and The World Economic Forum. He is Chairman, Board-of-Advisors, of Swytch.io, a company that tracks and verifies efforts to reduce atmospheric carbon emissions. Peter is also founder and Chairman of the Maker City project. His research on the Maker City project produced the best selling book–Maker City: A Practical Guide to Reinventing Our Cities.

Lloyd Huang

Lloyd has over 15 years of entrepreneurial, operational, management, sales, and consulting experience. With deep experience in three startup companies in three different markets, his responsibilities have spanned the spectrum from management to sales to engineering. The last startup, SMIC, based in Silicon Valley and China, went public on the New York Stock Exchange at a market capitalization of over US$8 billion with his own accounts generating over US$150 million in sales in less than two years. He has a peer-reviewed paper in ACM MobiCom (with over 275 citations) and a chapter in an IEEE technical book. He has a M.S. in computer science from UCLA and a B.S. in Electrical Engineering & Computer Sciences from UC Berkeley.

Matt Julian

Matt is a Columbia Business School MBA who has run acquisition marketing teams for two Fortune 500 companies.  At Pitney Bowes, Matt spent 10 years using multiple channels to acquire over 40,000 customers per year via online and offline marketing (generating over $1B in lifetime revenue and $225 million in lifetime EBIT).  He assisted in the creation of multiple new products that further increased PB’s bottom line and helped move them into new markets.  At Wolters Kluwer, Matt instituted impactful digital marketing that dramatically increased online orders and improved their online presence from a Social, Content, and Nurturing perspective.  Matt is a decorated digital and direct response professional with the good fortune of working with dozens of wonderful industry partners to create award winning (Direct Marketing Association) campaigns and directing projects that won internal and external recognition. 

Kent Larson

Kent directs the City Science (formerly Changing Places) group at the MIT Media Lab. His research focuses on developing urban interventions that enable more entrepreneurial, livable, high-performance districts in cities. To that end, his projects include advanced simulation and augmented reality for urban design, transformable micro-housing for millennials, mobility-on-demand systems that create alternatives to private automobiles, and Urban Living Lab deployments in Hamburg, Andorra, Taipei, and Boston.

Larson and researchers from his group received the “10-Year Impact Award” from UbiComp 2014. This is a “test of time” award for work that, with the benefit of hindsight, has had the greatest impact over the previous decade.

Larson practiced architecture for 15 years in New York City, with design work published in Architectural Record, Progressive Architecture, Global Architecture, The New York Times, A+U, and Architectural Digest. The New York Times Review of Books selected his book, Louis I. Kahn: Unbuilt Masterworks (2000) as one of that year’s ten best books in architecture.

Sung-Ju Lee, Ph.D.

S.J. is the Endowed Chair Professor at the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology. He previously was a Distinguished Mobility Architect and Principal Research Scientist at Hewlett-Packard Laboratories for 15 years. His research areas include mesh and decentralized networks and security. He has 45 patents granted and over 110 peer-reviewed research and conference papers. He is an IEEE Fellow and an ACM Distinguished Scientist. He has a M.S. and Ph.D. in Computer Science from UCLA.

Mark Lehmann

Mark is President of JMP Securities. He is also a member of the executive committee of JMP Group and serves on its board of directors. Prior to joining JMP in 2003, Mark served both as the Global Director of Institutional Sales and as the Global Director of Equity Research at Banc of America Securities after working as an institutional salesperson at the firm and its predecessor, Montgomery Securities, for 11 years. Mark holds a JD from the New York University School of Law and an undergraduate degree from the University of Illinois. He is also a certified public accountant.

Paul Lin

Paul has over 12 years of experience in the residential real estate development and investment sector. He is the Director of GLC Enterprises, a real estate holding and investment company in Southern California where he is a founding member. He has a B.S. from Harvey Mudd College and a M.B.A. from UC Irvine.

H.L. Lu

H.L. has a strong entrepreneurial streak with USD millions raised in the mainland market. He was an early employee at Ele.me, the leading delivery app in China that was bought by Alibaba for over US$9 billion, and founder of a dating app. Previously he was in engineering at Peugeot Citroen in Europe and China. An extremely high achiever, he is a master of growth hacking, especially in the Asia market. Recognized twice in the People’s Daily as a top overseas entrepreneur returnee. He has a B.A. from Shanghai JiaoTong University.

Joe Matulich

Joe is the Founder and President of Omega Productions, an award-winning film, video production and communications company. Joe co-founded the company to create high impact film and video productions for organizations large and small. Omega’s central premise is that good storytelling is the most powerful enhancement to any communications objective. Applying this principle, the company has produced numerous narrative and documentary programs and has created successful campaigns for product introductions, market positioning, corporate image and fundraising. Clients include Stanford Business School, Apple, Revel Systems, Oracle, Levi Strauss, The GAP, World Golf Tour, SONY and The San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, to name a few. In addition, Joe has been successful in raising over $225M in private equity funding for past ventures. He is the recipient of many corporate awards including a Gold Cindy, First Place/National Education Film Festival, 5 CINE Golden Eagles, the Telly Award, the N Y Film Festival World Medal and a Joey Award for corporate training.

Joey Zilioli

Joey has worked at various startups (SAAS, digital media, software, fashion, cacao) over the past decade in content strategy, sales, and operations, helping small teams achieve success across diverse industries. He has a B.A. from Emerson College.
